Smokey Mountain Flora
Originally from NY, I'm very familiar with the Adirondack Mountains. But they are
quite different from the Smokies. In NY the mountainsides are jagged stone and fir.
Rugged and majestic.
The Smokies generally have gentler slopes and little, comparatively, in the way of bare rock and cliff. But a slow, observant hike here in Tennessee's Cherokee Forest reveals something those northern mountains cannot match by any stretch -- both the amount of and variety of plants.
